Design

We pride ourselves in having our in-house Architect, Mark Guyatt, as part of our team. So we are able to create innovative bespoke designs especially for your setting.

We also have structural engineers and consultants on tap to ensure that we offer up to the minute technology and design service. So whether it is a multiple classroom block; early years centre; dining hall; computer suite; outdoor classroom or shelter; or additional office space, then we can provide a complete design, fabrication and turn-key installation to match your requirements.

Our buildings are designed to achieve ‘A’ rated energy efficiency levels, completely Building regulation compliant, with complete Safety Manifestation throughout. Sustainability and our Eco-friendly commitment is key in all our designs. We follow ‘Climatecare’ practices and the source sustainable materials to maintain our ‘eco-friendly’ credentials.

An eco-friendly and sensitively designed learning space is beneficial all round. For the school it ensures value for money and minimises environmental impact on the site, while for the student it can have positive benefits both academically and socially. Children and young people are empowered by the increased levels of personal comfort and security, and a real sense of belonging is developed to promote a greater degree of social cohesion and interaction.

All Learning Escape buildings are constructed to a ‘low impact’ build principal, so no heavy duty equipment is used on site and we are used to construction timelines taking place within term time, with no disruption to the School.

With a 60-year lifespan Learning Escapes are an integral building that are generally more comfortable, all year round, than most traditional School building.

Planning

The Learning Escape provide a full planning service. We will handle the whole proposal from start to finish. We will provide the design and areas maps, as well as make the application on your behalf. Working with an architect of your choice or just in consultation with you and your governing body.

Let us take all the stress and strain of the whole project from concept to completion.

From our experience it is extremely rare that an application gets turned down and we have years of experience of managing this process in consultation with our own architect.

Decking

If your plan involves a decked area let the Learning Escape design and build a beautiful outside surface suitable for your school. Whether you want a deck, steps or ramps, we can custom build any shape or size to complement your wonderful new outdoor room. DDA compliant decking and balustrade is provided, in our unique sustainable tanalised soft wood profile, which is fully safety compliant and requires little maintenance. The ramp access, where required will have a maximum gradient of 1:15 with lengths of less than 5m and a minimum overall width of 1200mm.

A proprietary non-slip decking will be used for outside play areas. We can also provide a Grass Deck, which is a timber and artificial grass decking that gives the appearance of natural grass edged with timber. It is durable and attractive, has a non-slip surface, and is easy to maintain. It is particularly useful in areas of high pedestrian traffic, or where ordinary grass struggles to survive.

Manufactured from tanalised softwood, decking and strips of high-quality, UV-stabilised artificial grass, which are bonded together using water-curing polyurethane adhesive. The boards can be sawn easily to create any kind of shape, and have a minimum life of 15 years.

Landscaping

We ensure that your design nestles easily into your School setting. Along with our experienced ‘Grounds technicians’ we have associates who specialise in all the finishing touches, to ensure that the building is fully integrated into the surroundings, linking our natural materials in with the landscape.

Maintenance

You will see that on-going maintenance to your Learning Escape is minimal and trouble free. Once the building is fully installed you can relax and let nature take its course, the building will weather over time to beautiful silvery grey. But rest assured, the natural oils in the cedar cladding will resist decay and insect attack for decades to come.

If you wish to maintain the original cedar hue, The Learning Escape can provide you with a wood care package to suit your needs. With a selection of unique sustainable oils, this natural treatment maintains the original colour, withstands the harshest of climates and is eco-friendly too!

Our relationship with your School, never stops after the installation, we are always on call for any After-care that is required. We can also assist you in any future development or changes of usage that comes along.
