Classroom at Hindringham School in Norfolk

Building type: Classrooms
Project price: £110,000
Completion date: 2008

Set in the picturesque village of Fakenham in Norfolk, Hindringham Primary School spent five years of tireless fundraising to ensure their key stage 1 pupils had an inspirational and practical building that meets their needs.

Hindringham Primary School pride themselves on their family values and forward thinking, making the learning process take place in a happy and safe environment. The whole community was pulled together to embark on a determined fundraising campaign that resulted in raising the capital cost of their new eco mobile classroom.

When their deteriorating old mobile classrooms were no longer up to the job, they decided they wanted an environmentally friendly ‘eco’ building to replace them. They chose the latest model in this environmentally friendly, energy efficient and state-of-the-art design line and created an 80 square metre outdoor early years classroom building. The new mobile classroom incorporates a host of energy-saving features such as sun-pipes, which direct and reflect natural light into the classroom, reducing the cost of electricity. The building also comes with its own toilets, wet area, reading window and play porch.

Headteacher,Sue Dubois says “Both children and staff have really enjoyed working in this lovely new classroom, with easy access to the outdoors for play. A welcome bonus is that we have saved significantly on energy costs!”

"The children are fascinated with the pools of light from the sun pipes and have appreciated the beautiful views across the fields through the seasons."
