Add more value to your home in your own back garden

The fluctuating housing market is a challenge for any homeowner and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find new and innovative ways to increase the value of your home. A good kitchen and bathroom are always top of the value checklist but more homeowners are choosing to improve the unique aspects of their property to get ahead on the market.

Garden rooms are a popular way to add value to a property without disturbing the house that already exists. They can become an essential part of your home, give it a bespoke feature that will stand out on the market and create a unique selling point.

We’ve compiled a list of garden rooms that can be designed to give you extra space and increase the value of your home.

  • Garden bedroom. If your home is short of spare bedrooms, a garden room could be the perfect solution. Give guests the option to stay in a secluded escape, away from the main house, and add an extra bedroom to your floor plan. Ensure that the garden room has plenty of windows for natural light and a neutral decor for easy redesign should you choose to sell. If you have the space, consider adding a bathroom to your garden room to create an en-suite bedroom. Should your budget allow, spa-like features are a brilliant way to boost property value.
  • Garden office. Those that work from home may decide to create an office space with a difference. A garden office is a way for self-employed homeowners to separate their work life from their personal life without needing to commute or spend money on a shared office. A garden room that can be used as an inspiring and motivating work space could be a deal clincher for prospective buyers. A natural space that compliments the rest of your garden can help your house offer something different and increase its value.
  • Garden living room. Many people choose to invest in a garden room as a space simply to relax. Design the garden room with an impressive sound system and plenty of technology to catch the eye of gadget lovers and big spenders. Creating a new garden room that can be used as a living space may also give you the opportunity to free up room in your existing home. This space can then be redesigned to help you improve the selling value of your house.

Environmentally aware homes are an increasingly popular choice on the property market, so an eco-friendly garden room is an efficient way to give your home value an extra push. Think about what your garden room will be used for and how you can make it a desirable selling point when it comes to putting your house back on the market.
