TG Escapes End of Year Report

by Robyn Fletcher | Jan 3, 2017 | Blog, Education

TG Escapes would like to wish you all a very happy and exciting new year. At this time of reflection on what has been in 2016 and anticipation of what is to come in 2017, we would like to share with you just some of the projects with which it has been our pleasure and a privilege to be involved during the last twelve months.

2016 was extremely busy and saw us create a diverse range of buildings for the education sector, the length and breadth of the country. We have built nurseries and primary classrooms; staff rooms, family rooms and suites for secondary schools and special needs students. We have created learning spaces for both the private and the public sector, some large and some small, but all unique and tailored carefully to meet the individual needs of each of our customers.

In Hertfordshire, we built an eco-nursery for the Toad Hall group, who were in need of a rapid solution to a surge in demand for places, and were delighted with not only the speed of the build but also the building itself. Further south, at the Crofton Hammond Infant School in Hampshire, we were able to work within a tight budget (provided by the MoD) to create a family space for the support of children and parents of forces families, often facing extremely sensitive challenges.

At New Chapter School in Milton Keens, we needed to create a staff room that was a sufficiently flexible space to double as a breakout space for pastoral care, within a tight budget and a limited time scale. They were delighted with our ability to deliver a building, on time and on budget, that has proven to have a very positive impact on the well-being of their staff.

Closer to home (for most of the TG Escapes team) we were thrilled to create a charity funded sports pavilion for the Heart of the Forest School. Based in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, this school caters for children and young people with profound disabilities and special educational needs. They were approached by the rugby inspired Wooden Spoon charity who offered the funding to build a sports pavilion that allows all of their students to participate in outdoor pursuits and activities and was opened by rugby legend Jonny May.

We were also delighted to be invited back by two customers from previous years to extend their existing Learning Escape buildings. At Woolwich Polytechnic Secondary School in London, we completed the final phase of an ambitious three stage project to create art studio facilities, 6th form centre and classrooms, that now accommodate over 600 students. Whilst at Hartsholme Academy in Lincoln, we were invited to assist them with extending their learning space as the school continues to thrive and grow, due in part to their commitment to outside learning.

As many of you will know, TG Escapes is passionate about the powerful benefits of a connection to the natural environment and of learning outside, and so we were thrilled to be commissioned to build a three classroom pre-prep suite at Bickley Park in Bromley. The project was specifically designed to encourage the free-flow of children between the inside and outdoor learning spaces that we created for them and we were delighted to attend the opening by Chris Hollins, BBC presenter and former Bickley Park pupil.

Of course, there were many other projects that are too numerous to mention. We have enjoyed the challenges of each and would like to thank all of our customers for their faith in us and their business. May you all enjoy your new learning spaces both next year and for many more to come.
